About Us

CrossFit incorporates a variety of weightlifting, calisthenics, and cardiovascular exercises for a total body workout. Each component of the workouts can be modified and scaled to accommodate any fitness level or physical limitation. Meshugge CrossFit at The J is more than just a great workout, it is a community of people that support you, celebrate your successes, and pick you up when you're down. We program each WOD (Workout Of the Day) to not only challenge you, but change you. A WOD combines strength training and cardiovascular conditioning by using both body weights and/or weighted exercises performed either for time or for the task.

Typical Class

To ensure future success, new members without previous CrossFit experience will be required to enroll in a 2-hour On-Ramp class, which is designed to teach the fundamental movements.  Enroll in On-Ramp

A typical class lasts 1 hour. At the start of class, the coach gathers all the members at the whiteboard to discuss what the hour will look like and to explain the WOD. They will also spend time explaining the countless scaling options for all levels of fitness. Then the coach guides everyone through a general warmup, then a workout specific warmup, then the workout.

The workouts consist of either weightlifting, gymnastics, metabolic conditioning, or a combination of any of those. You can be sure that no two days will be the exact same. The last 5-10 minutes of the hour are spent cleaning up and putting away equipment, as well as a cool down.

Meshugge CrossFit is located within the Jewish Community Center, providing access to incredible amenities most CrossFit boxes don't have, such as indoor and outdoor pools, an indoor track, yoga classes, and more! Coaches

Mike Hicks, Operations Manager

Certifications: CrossFit Level 2 + CPR/First Aid/AED

I started my fitness journey at the age of 18 when I got my first gym membership and started doing the typical exercises that teenagers often do... body building super sets, running, skipping leg day, etc. A few years later I enrolled in a personal training technical school, received my certification, and began personal training in a one-on-one studio. A couple years later I discovered kettlebells and CrossFit while working in corporate gym, and started employing those training styles with my clientele (and even started incorporating leg days!) Eventually I moved to training individuals and groups in an unaffiliated CrossFit gym, and from there I found The J and Meshugge CrossFit, where I’ve resided for the past 7 years.
Since becoming Operations Manager, the amount of time I spend coaching has decreased, but I still find joy and excitement watching folks achieve fitness goals they previously thought were unattainable. Helping our members realize their true physical and mental potential, and having such a significant impact in their lives is very rewarding.

Nick Petersen, Programming Manager

Certifications: CrossFit Level 2 + CPR/First Aid/AED

My interest in fitness started at a young age. Growing up in a suburb of Los Angeles I played baseball year-round. To supplement, I started with push-ups and pull-ups at home, which then led into having dedicated time in the weight room in high school. After graduating high school, I attended Northwest Missouri State where I eventually worked with the Strength and Conditioning staff for 2 years. In that time, I developed a love for Olympic weightlifting. From there I found CrossFit through coaching Oly classes at a CrossFit gym full-time during my summer and winter breaks.
Since graduating college, I’ve been a part-time coach for 2 years and have now been the full-time head coach/gym manager at The J for the last 2 years.
I’m very passionate about CrossFit, both the sport and the training methodology. I live to be in the gym impacting and helping as any people as I can in their fitness journey. After having coached for about 5 years, my passion to keep learning, growing, and sharing what I’ve learned with people hasn’t dwindled in the slightest. Outside of the gym I love spending time (outside as much as possible) with my wife and our 2 dogs.

For Ages 7-16

Focused on FUNdamentals, our program teaches children proper exercise mechanics they can apply throughout life. This class will help kids with coordination, awareness for sports, playing outside, and simply being a kid.

Work one-on-one with any of our incredible certified CrossFit Coaches to improve form, strength, and mobility.
