The J's Commitment to Your Well-being
The health and well-being of our Members and guests have always been of the utmost importance. In addition to following the State of Kansas Health Department, Johnson County, and the Centers for Disease Control guidelines, The J is implementing extra precautions to help our community stay safe and healthy. This includes extensive cleaning protocols and social distancing practices within each of our classes, programs, and facility areas. The J requests all Members and guests carefully follow these guidelines to help keep the facilities and the entire community as safe and healthy as possible.

Due to the escalating numbers of COVID cases in Johnson County, The J is taking additional steps to ensure the health and safety for our Members.
Effective immediately, the usage of the Locker Room is discontinued to comply with Johnson County guidelines. The restroom areas and family changing rooms will remain open for Member use. Temperature checks will be implemented soon for everyone entering Fitness + Sports + Aquatics facilities.
To practice safe social distancing, we will be enforcing a strict limit on the number of individuals in the facility at one time. Before making a trip to The J, please reference the People Counter above, or you may call ahead to (913) 327-8010. Below are other social distancing procedures in place.
♦ Cardio Machines/equipment will be spread out 6-10 feet apart
♦ Indoor Track is NOW OPEN for walking ONLY. Mask are required.
♦ Every other weight machine will be covered and unavailable for use
♦ No "hands-on" Personal Training to adjust form or posture, and training sessions will take place in other areas of the building. Now Available: Personal Trainers that come to you!
♦ Stairways will be one direction only for entrance and exit
Group Fitness + CrossFit Classes
♦ Sections will be marked in Group Fitness rooms for your workout area
♦ Limited participants per class; face masks are strongly encouraged
♦ Advanced registration required
♦ Classes will not take place back-to-back to reduce crowding
and allow sanitization between classes
♦ Some classes are mask-only and will be indicated on the Schedule
♦ Select classes will be live-streamed online through the Virtual J
♦ Advanced lane reservation required
♦ Lap Swimming limited to 45 minutes per person per day
♦ Avoid crossing lanes with others when entering and exiting the pool
♦ Swimmers must bring their own equipment and are encouraged to
bring their own towel. Towel service will be available for indoor use only.
♦ Advanced reservation required for Water Aerobics
♦ Max of 3 people in whirlpool; must sit in designated spots
♦ Machines and high-touch surfaces will be sanitized frequently
♦ Deep cleaning and nightly electrostatic cleaning
♦ Additional and routine training with all staff on proper cleaning and sanitization techniques
♦ Hand sanitizers placed at facility entrances and throughout the building
♦ Self-service cleaning materials readily available for Member use
At The J
♦ Mandatory face masks for staff
♦ Sneeze guards have been installed at all desks, including the Main
Reception Desk, Member Experience Desk, and Fitness Floor
♦ Strict limits on the number of individuals entering the facility
♦ Additional signage to provide directions, spacing, etc. where needed
♦ Temporary closure of certain areas within the building where
social distancing is difficult to maintain
♦ Staff are required to take their temperatures daily and
encouraged to stay home if feeling ill
♦ Frequent cleaning of common areas
♦ All Members and participants are required to wear a face
mask when inside the building. (Exceptions include: when entering the
indoor pool or just prior to socially distanced cardio activity.)
♦ Participants are highly encouraged to wear their mask at all times. Even when
socially distanced during cardio activities or group fitness classes.
♦ Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats
♦ Please wipe down equipment, machines, and other surfaces
BEFORE and AFTER use with the provided supplies
♦ Frequent hand-washing and sanitization
♦ Temperature checks will occur at J Clubhouse and soon for
everyone entering Fitness + Sports + Aquatics
Member + Guest Code of Conduct
The J requests all Members and guests carefully follow these guidelines to help keep the facilities and the entire community as safe and healthy as possible:
♦ All Members and participants ages 6 years and older are REQUIRED* to wear a face mask at ALL times inside the building. This includes the gymnasium and indoor turf field, for basketball, pickleball, open gym play, and shooting baskets.
*The only exceptions include: when entering indoor pool or just prior to socially distanced cardio activity (reserved Group Fitness classes and cardio equipment). Mask wearing is highly encouraged even during these socially distanced activities.
♦ Respect personal space by keeping a safe distance of at least 6 feet between yourself and others
♦ Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
and sanitize hands using the stations located throughout the facility and at entrances
♦ Follow designated signage for entrance and exit of areas or fitness rooms throughout the facility
♦ Refrain from using areas of the facility that are not currently open
♦ Disinfect equipment surfaces BEFORE and AFTER every workout
♦ Take your temperature frequently; if you are running a temperature, exhibiting flu-like symptoms, have been in contact with anyone who has COVID-19, or generally not feeling well, please stay home and utilize our Virtual J resources
As a valued and loyal J Member, please take the health and safety of others to heart. The J reserves the right to suspend the membership for anyone flagrantly disregarding these guidelines.
According to the CDC guidelines, older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions, like heart or lung disease or diabetes, may be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness. If you fall into one of these categories, it is recommended you stay home if possible or take extra safety precautions to reduce your risk of getting sick.
