Set in a small rural Tennessee town, this play, based on the famous Scopes Monkey trial of 1925, follows a school teacher who is arrested for teaching his students Darwin's theory of evolution through a fierce trial. The case quickly gains national attention and is fueled with more intensity when a former presidential candidate and famous evangelist takes the prosecutor position. With betrayal and treachery at every turn, the case takes on a life of its own.

A note about our cast:
The White Theatre has received special permission from the estates of Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee to present this classic and relevant play about the freedom of thought, the right to knowledge, the fight for moral superiority, and vanquishing bigotry with a gender-, race-, and disability-neutral cast. Actors and audiences alike will be challenged to see past race and gender to the basic humanity within each of these characters. We look forward to a thoughtful and dialogue-provoking production that reflects our diverse community.
