Volunteer at The J

Monetary donations are one way The J continues to operate, but we also rely on volunteers who generously donate their time to our volunteer opportunities in Johnson County. We have longer-term opportunities like our Board of Directors or KC SuperStar planning committee.

We also have one-time events that are always looking for additional people to lend a hand! These are also great opportunities for students needing community service hours.

Volunteer at the 2026 JCC Maccabi Games in KC

The JCC Maccabi Games® is a celebration of our entire community, working together to strengthen our identity, engage volunteers of all ages, and build a foundation for the future.

This event will require the time and assistance of more than 1,000 volunteers. From host families to event operations and everything in between, there are volunteer opportunities to fit your interests, talent, and schedule. Whether you volunteer during the week of the Games or in a role leading up to the event, the time is now to get involved!

All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older as of July 31, 2026, for daytime shifts or age 21+ to volunteer for the evening social events. Volunteers of all faiths are welcome.

Volunteer Opportunities

Usher

No performance at The White Theatre could happen without our incredible volunteer ushers, who ensure a safe and welcoming experience for our patrons.

Ushers act as hosts and support performances by handing out programs, seating patrons, scanning tickets, assisting with the box office, selling concessions, and creating a warm theatre-going experience for our audience members.

Ushers generally arrive one hour before performances, are asked to dress professionally and respectfully, and will be given an Usher badge to wear during the performance.

Ushers also receive complimentary tickets to performances that they volunteer at.

Backstage Crew & Scene Shop

Those who are interested in volunteering to support our technical and production teams can do so in a variety of ways. This includes: building and painting scenery, organizing props and backstage spaces, assisting with load-ins and strike, and helping performances run smoothly backstage.

Volunteer opportunities vary throughout the season, and may take place during daytime, evening, or weekend hours depending on production schedules. No prior theatre experience is required for many opportunities — just a willingness to learn, collaborate, and be part of the creative process.
