The Youth Triathlon at the J provides a fun and healthy opportunity to help children stay active this summer. By combining swimming, biking and running in one sport, participants benefit from well-rounded fitness workouts, enhancing their endurance and strength, and having a lot of fun!
The event is a fun way for children with wide ranges of experience, from novice to serious athlete, to participate individually or as part of a 2-3 person team. You won't want to miss food, music, fun and an award for every participant! The Youth Triathlon at the J is open to youth 4-17 years of age (NOTE: Per USA Triathlon Rules, the race age for an athlete is his/her age on Dec 31 of the year of the event).

Participants and parents are REQUIRED to attend a pre-race orientation session. The Pre Race Orientation will be held at the Jewish Community Center on: Thursday, June 25th in the Social Hall at 7:00 p.m. Participants will receive a participant packet, event T-shirt, course information, and tips on various aspects of the event. All participants are automatically entered in a drawing for a free bicycle courtesy of Bike America, in Lee's Summit, Overland Park, and Olathe. Go to Bike America for all your triathlon gear.
This year we will once again have our Elite Teen Division, for youth ages 15 to 17. Race with the best and be the best!
Families who enter three or more siblings in the Individual Division receive a 50% entry fee discount on the third, fourth or fifth child entered.
After its great success last year, we will again welcome kids 4 and 5 to our Tri for Tots™ Triathlon Division. Now everyone can get into the action with a 25 yard kiddie pool swim, a .75 mile bike, and .25 run. This will be a non-competitive event with relaxed rules. Team members totaling 27 years old and under compete on the short course. Team members totaling 28 and over compete on the long course.
The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City, using the indoor pool for competitors 10 years old and under and the outdoor pool for competitors 11 - 17 years old. The parking lot will be closed to vehicular traffic. The JCC thanks Sprint for the use of their property, allowing us to stay off city streets.
Tri for Tots (ages 4 & 5)
Individual: 8 years old and under (short course); Ages 9-10 (short course); Ages 11-12 (long course); Ages 13-14 (long course); Teen Elites (ages 15-17)
Relay (team members ages totaled): 27 and under (short course); 28 and up (long course)
NOTE: Pursuant to USA Triathlon Rules the age of an athlete is his or her age on December 31 of the year of the event.
Safety is a primary concern. ANSI or Snell approved bike helmets are required during the bicycle portion of the event. Radio/stereo headsets are not permitted. Parents must refrain from entering the transition area and the course while the event is in progress. Any parent assisting a child will result in disqualification. Parents are welcome to cheer from the sidelines. Due to hot and humid comditions that may exist during this time of the yar, drink plenty of water before and during the event.
This event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. All youth participants must be a member of USAT. One day race membership is $10 or $15 for a one year membership and must be purchased in advance of the race or at orientation. A major benefit for parents is that they will not be required to attend every race registration to sign their child's USAT waiver. With the ONE TIME payment, youth triathletes will be eligible to compete in ALL triathlons for the remainder of their annual membership. Visit USAtriathlon.com to purchase youth membership online.
Double your fun, be part of the TRiKIDS Midwest Series. Participate in the both the Longview Jr. Triathlon and the JCC Youth Triathlon and earn points based on your finish time to be a TRiKIDS Midwest Series winner. group. The overall male and female will winner in the 10 and under, 11-41, and Teen Elite divisions will win a special trophy and the title of Best TRiKID in the Midwest. The TRiKIDS Points Series Awards will be announced after July 27.
All participants will receive a race t-shirts, goodie bag and award. Stick around after the Triathlon for a Post-Race Party with food, music and fun! Tri it this Summer! Please note that there are NO refunds or transfers of entries.
