Townsend Communications in Kansas City, MO along with KCPT, Kansas City Public Television, presents the performARTS series. Underwritten by Speas Memorial Trusts; Bank of America, Trustee, and the Richard J. Stern Foundation for the Arts; Commerce Bank, Trustee, six featured performARTS organizations were selected out of hundreds of arts organizations across this metropolitan community and were featured in all the issues of KC Studio magazine in 2012-2013.


Along with the printed story in KC Studio, KCPT produced a piece on each of the selected groups on KCPT’s The Local Show.

2012-2013 PerformARTS Organizations

The Folly Theater is a historic performance venue that hosts the Heartland Men’s Chorus, the Harriman-Jewell Series, and the Friends of Chamber Music, among many others. (November/December issue). For more than 35 years, the Unicorn Theatre has produced and developed evocative and new plays, and supports emerging and established actors and playwrights.(January/February issue).

The 55-year old Kansas City Ballet  reaches the community through exceptional performances, excellence in dance training, and community education for all ages. (March/April issue).

The American Jazz Museum, located in the historical 18th and Vine District, preserves the history of American jazz while the Gem Theater provides a venue for today’s jazz artists (July/August issue).

The Mid-America Arts Alliance was created to support and stimulate cultural activity in communities throughout Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. Based in Kansas City, the MAAA manages regional, multi-regional, national, and international programs including traveling exhibitions, performing arts touring, and professional and community development.(September/October issue).
