Sports and Recreation Supervisor

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City is adding  a third Sports and Recreation Supervisor to its Team.  Currently comprised of a membership of 8000 people, The J welcomes 300,000 visitors annually to experience its cultural, fitness, education, child care, recreation, sports, theatre, summer camps, family and senior adult programs. Noted for its state-of-the-art fitness and aquatics facilities, award-winning early childhood program and 500-seat theatre, The J operates within the context of Jewish values and traditions, and provides wellness, meaning and joy to the people it serves.

The Sports and Recreation department has been experiencing tremendous growth over the past several years.  The department has added new programs and added hundreds of participants to existing programs.   This position allows the selected candidate to become part of an exciting opportunity to offer high quality recreational opportunities for all ages.


Reporting to the Sports and Recreation Program Coordinator, this position, one of three Sports and Recreation Program Supervisors at The J, will focus on management and instruction of the children’s FUNatics sports classes; marketing and management of sports birthday parties; coaching children in the youth soccer and basketball programs; and assisting with summer sports camps.  Other sports management backgrounds are also welcome to submit resumes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement preschool sports class curriculum
  • Market and facilitate sports birthday parties
  • Plan and Implement monthly Sports themed Saturday Night Out program
  • Assist with coaching in The J’s Skill Builders Soccer and Basketball programs
  • Coordinate sports clinics with The J’s Sports Summer Camp

Key Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in the recreation field
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with children
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to support evening and weekend programming
  • Work well with colleagues, but capable of working independently as well
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Be able to reach and exceed individual and team sales goals
  • Outgoing and results oriented with a commitment to team success
  • Provide outstanding customer service
  • Basic computer skills
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree preferred

Member Experience Desk Staff

Join the growing Fitness & Sports team at the JCC with this important role in greeting Members and guests while handling day-to-day responsibilities for ongoing programs and activities.


The Member Experience Desk Staff will enhance the Member experience by creating a welcoming environment in which JCC Members and guests obtain knowledgeable information about all JCC programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Greets all JCC Members and guests to ensure accurate counts of users of the facility and create a safe environment by knowing the users of the facility.
  • Has a clear understanding of all programs that the JCC offers and can explain, sell and charge the Member/participant accurately via face to face or over the phone.
  • Handle all complaints/comments in a professional and courteous manner, leaving the Member/guest satisfied with the answer.
  • Create a safe and clean environment by maintaining all locker rooms and Fitness and Sports lobby, including racquetball courts and kinesis studio.
  • Understand and enforces rules and regulations for the Fitness and Sports Department. This includes both desk policies and facility policies.
  • Comprehends the computer system and knows how to facilitate the following programs: check-in, program registration, series sale and scheduler.

Key Requirements:

  • High School diploma
  • A minimum of three years experience in the customer service field
  • First aid/CPR/AED certified within the first 90 days of employment
  • Basic knowledge of computers
  • Personable and friendly
  • Strong work ethic
  • Must be able to multi-task
